Dear nippers and parents,With only a couple of weeks to go it's hard to believe the season is almost over. Thank you to everyone who has been involved this year, our coaches, the parents who run the bar and BBQ on Thursdays, the brave ones who jump in the water and help the coaches (especially on the last couple of Thursdays), the parents who have trekked all over the State so their kids could compete at carnivals, those that help out with unifor...

Happy New Year to all our parents and Nippers. It has been great to see so many of you back on the beach after our break and also to
see so many new families as well. Welcome to our program.
The carnivals are great fun, generally run very well by Life Saving Victoria and the kids get a huge thrill from being part of such a large event. You can register for the carnival by putting your child's name and DOB on the white board at the clubhouse or by emailing me at this address. If you have any queries please speak to your child's coach at training. On carnival days we still run a modified training session at Black Rock but as many of the coaches attend the carnivals any extra parent help we can get is appreciated.

Everyone is progressing well and developing new skills on the beach as well as in the water. We have a lot of keen paddlers and we have been practicing board starts as well as having some fun board races. Many of the nippers in this group are now confident paddling out around the white markers and we also have a lot of proud parents cheering them on. The focus for the next couple of weeks leading up to the metro carnivals will be to work on flags, sprints and wading.
(The following YouTube clip was recommended to me. Great viewing for any budding beach flag competitors with some good slow motion sequences...)

"We are concentrating on swimming at the moment to ensure the children are able to swim the distances required for S badges. We have started swimming around the white markers and many of the children are gaining confidence in the open water”

Junior Competition Squad
siblings alike all got into it and enjoyed the action. Our Junior competitors should be very proud of themselves as all showed new skills, speed and good technique picked up during the extra summer training which helped them achieve personal goals. Show stopping races were performed by Ebony Francis who came 1st in Girls U8 Flags, Sprint and Wade Race. It is worth mentioning that all Black Rock competitors earned championship points for our club by placing in the top 6 in at least one individual event. It was great to see such a fantastic effort and collaboration from all of our Age Managers and parents organizing our competitors into composite teams and stepping in to assist LSV officials with marshalling and recording place getters. A special thanks to the Wallis's and the Fawcett's for transporting and setting up our Black Rock marquee. Brilliant effort Black Rock!
Uniforms

Thank you to Lynette Shelley and Georgina Waters, our lovely new uniform assistants. They will be available to help you select and purchase uniforms prior to most training sessions. And don't forget our current stock of rash vests are all half price thanks to a grant received for sun protective clothing. The older style are selling at $10 and the new printed rashies are only $20, but only while stocks last.
