Dear nippers and parents,With only a couple of weeks to go it's hard to believe the season is almost over. Thank you to everyone who has been involved this year, our coaches, the parents who run the bar and BBQ on Thursdays, the brave ones who jump in the water and help the coaches (especially on the last couple of Thursdays), the parents who have trekked all over the State so their kids could compete at carnivals, those that help out with unifor...

Fantastic result with 20 results placed in the top 6. Our carnival crew are becoming like a well oiled machine at these events and put in a lot of work in to make sure things run smoothly for the kids. Thanks to Nikolai and Kelly for their help organising the team, transporting boards and providing water safety. Thanks also to Kathryn Wallis for her help in transporting and setting up the marquee and Simon Fawcett for being our qualified offical.

Dear Parents and Nippers,
Welcome to the start of season ‘09/’10. It was great to see so many old friends and new faces at registration day and what a magic start to summer training, sunny skies, a calm bay and lots of happy faces.
For those of you who are new to the club or new to nippers a very big welcome. At Black Rock LSC we have a strong family focus, provide a welcoming environment and are dedicated to excellence and fairness.
The purpose of these e newsletters which we aim to send out through the season is to provide information and reminders about upcoming events, to give an overview of training and to hear from our coaches about what is happening in the individual age groups.
Carnival at Sth. Melbourne LSC- December 12th
Nippers U7 and above are eligible to compete in carnivals in competitions such as flags, beach sprints, relay and board races. We ask that all nippers attend at least one carnival over the season, either Sth Melbourne on Dec 12th or Mentone LSC on 30th January. If the children are not interested in competing then their support in cheering on their Black Rock team mates is appreciated. The carnivals are also a great spectacle and help the children build camaraderie with their team mates.
Children who will be competing will need to gain their S badge prior to the day and this assessment will be carried out at training on 28th November and again on 3rd December.
On carnival days we still run a modified training session at Black Rock but as many of the coaches attend the carnivals any extra parent help we can get is appreciated.
Dates for your diary
Saturday December 19th is the Black Rock Intraclub Carnival starting at 1pm. This is a great opportunity for children too young to attend LSV carnivals to participate in a fun competition with their Black Rock team mates. There will be junior and senior events as well as some parent competitions. Following the carnival is a beach party at the club starting at 6.30pm. All welcome. The 19th concludes training for 2009 and we are back on Jan 2nd.
Coaches reports.
Under 5 and 6
“We have a wonderful group of children this year and their enthusiasm and willingness to give things a try is fantastic to see. Our aims are to get the children comfortable around the water, introduce them to the basics of flags, beach sprints, wading and boards but most of all to have lots of fun. We have many parents who have been willing to jump in the water and help out with training and your support is much appreciated” Mel and Julie
Under 7 and Under 8
Nikolai is working on both fitness and technique with this group. He employs many different drills to keep the children entertained, challenged and improving their technical skills in both beach and water events. From the level of fierce competition his group displays on the beach we should hope to see some great performances at the carnivals.
Under 9/ 10/11
“We are concentrating on swimming at the moment to ensure the children are able to swim the 70m required for S badges. We will be assessing the children on Saturday 28th November.
The children are reassessed every year for their S badge and need to have one on their club bathers when competing in any carnivals. I hope the children all enjoy the season ahead and have fun as well as learning water skills, getting fit and enjoying a great Australian pastime.” Yvonne
Under 12/13/14
“At this stage we have around 20 people in this age group, all keen to get fit and learn the skills required to become competent competitors, very exciting to see so many, look forward to a big season.” Kev
Can you help?
The Thursday night sausage sizzle is a much loved tradition after training and it couldn’t happen without the help of our wonderful parents. Josie and Jane do a great job in keeping us fed but if anyone would like to volunteer to give them a hand it would be much appreciated. They start cooking around 7.30 (so you still have the opportunity to watch half of training) and finish serving around 8.45. Please speak to Josie and Jane if you are able to help.
If any parents have completed the “Responsible Serving of Alcohol” course and are able to help out behind the bar on Thursday nights please speak to Faye at training.
Did you know?
The jellyfish that we are having to share the water with at the moment are called Blue Blubbers and their increased numbers are due to the warmer weather. If you would to find out more you can visit www.stkildamarinaclub.com/jellyfish.pdf
