Black Rock LSC claims top honour as LSV Club of the Year 2021

Black Rock Life Saving Club has won Life Saving Victoria’s (LSV’s) highest club honour, winning the Beaurepaire Shield for LSV Club of the Year, supported by Marsh, at the 2021 LSV Awards of Excellence.

The LSV Club of the Year award, supported by Marsh, recognises a club’s innovative and effective patrolling and management practices, strategic planning and inclusive participant involvement.

Black Rock LSC president Nicola Harrop accepted the award on behalf of her club and congratulated the members for their outstanding efforts during the season which led to this moment.

“I’m absolutely honoured to accept the LSV Club of the Year award on behalf of Black Rock LSC, and I am incredibly proud of everyone, from our Nippers right up to our Masters, life members and parents, for their efforts during a challenging season.

“A major highlight for Black Rock LSC in season 2020-21 is our flexibility through COVID-related changes and that for a small club, we have diversity in our membership and offer something for everyone.

“Our members are active within and outside of the club in wider Victorian lifesaving operations, volunteering as officials, water safety, working and volunteering at LSV, being trainers, assessors, drone pilots, lifeguards, pool coaches and on the pool panel.

“Black Rock LSC aims to provide the community with a safe, friendly and welcoming environment to swim, gain vital lifesaving and water safety skills, while having fun and creating lifelong friendships, and because of our members, we have achieved this.”

LSV chief executive officer Catherine Greaves applauded the Awards of Excellence winners for their outstanding dedication to their various disciplines of lifesaving.

“The Awards of Excellence is an opportunity to acknowledge the incredible people who support our fantastic organisation and its mission to prevent death and injury by drowning in all Victorian communities,” Ms Greaves said.

“I commend Black Rock LSC, which has been named the LSV Club of the Year, and all of the club members, who exemplify our mission to prevent aquatic related death and injury by drowning in all Victorian communities, through their commitment to developing exceptional lifesavers.

“Thank you Black Rock LSC, for providing members of our community with lifesaving and water safety skills to make Victorian waterways safer for everyone to enjoy and congratulations on being named our LSV Club of the Year.

“I’d also like to thank Marsh for supporting this award and for helping to make our Awards of Excellence possible.”
