COMPETITION

Sport competition plays a vital role in keeping members fit, active and engaged while building life saving skills and life long friendships.

BLACK ROCK SPORTS

Areas of competition include:

Beach – flags, sprints, distance runs and relays

Surf – swim, board, ski, iron and relays

Rescue and Resuscitation (R&R)

Lifesaving events – patrol competition and first aid competition

Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) competition

Pool competition

Black Rock are proud to have members from all age groups (U8-60+) who compete at State, National and International competitions.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Black Rock are proud to have members from all age groups (U6-60+) who compete at State, National and International competitions.

During the 2018/19 season Black Rock members competed at the following championship events;

Life Saving World Championship

Each season Life Saving Victoria run a series of carnivals leading up to State Championships and the Australian Championships.

Beach, surf, R&R and lifesaving event carnivals are held throught the summer months, October – March and pool and IRB carnivals are held over the winter months, April-September.

Hold BM & IRB award weekly/twice weekly training – days/times vary skills training in preparation for competing at IRB carnivals

All competitions members and/or families of, are required to assist with at least one fundraising event per season., such as the Tin Shake, funds raised are integral to the upkeep of our lifesaving club & training equipment.

LIFESAVING

Competition Prerequisites

Junior

Nippers must be 8 years old by midnight 30th September (U9 age group), to compete in open water events.   U8 nippers can compete in beach and wade events only but not at summer State Championships.

To ensure nipper safety, Surf Life Saving Australia have a set competency levels that must be achieved before being eligible to compete at carnivals.  These are known as Competition Skills (CS).

Senior

U14 & U15 compete in the Youth area and must attain their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) to be eligible to compete in lifesaving competitions.

U17+ members must attain their Bronze Award (BM) to be eligible to compete in lifesaving competitions

To compete at any State Championship event, Life Saving Victoria require members to complete a minimum of 16 hours patrol (4 hours in first year of achieving award) between 1st January and 31st December of the preceding year.
